      As the tennis ball rebounds from the glass wall behind, players swing their arms and strike the ball, passing it over the net to create a unique drop that catches their opponent off guard, leaving him in a regretful loss. ‘Nice shot!’ Cheers and shouts of support fill the air. In the middle of July, as Chengdu 2021 FISU Games approach, an intense Padel Tour competition was being staged in the Funky Sports Park in Lujiatan,  Wenjiang District, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, China.       On the west side of Wenjiang District in Chengdu, Jinma River, which branches off from the Minjiang River, runs tirelessly day and night. For centuries, it has been accompanied by the gentle and graceful Jiang’an River, which lies a few miles apart, embracing this land with its huge strength and vastness. Today, as part of Wenjiang’s strategic plan to enhance the region’s ecological value, Jinma River is rejuvenating itself, capitalizing on the momentum generated by Chengdu 2021 FISU Games.       A stroll along Lujiatan reveals a vibrant landscape, adorned with lush greenery and picturesque water and sky. Along the greenway, cyclists embrace the wind as they ride. On the surface of the water, paddlers create ripples as they glide through. On the grassy lawn, parents and children play and enjoy themselves near their tents. In the shade, the sound of cheers erupts aloud as goals are scored.       Today, Lujiatan boasts various sports and leisure facilities, including a Football Sports Park, Funky Sports Park, Hop Park, SP motor sports base, fairyland garden, and leisure farm, catering to the diverse needs and preferences of different consumer groups.       The lively sports scenes of Lujiatan epitomize the widespread participation in sports in Wenjiang, where mass fitness has become a common way of today’s life. Citizens are able to stay fit and healthy right at their doorstep, allowing a strong bond between sports and the community to grow.       There is a skateboard park in Wenjiang Galaxy World Science and Technology Innovation City, attracting nearly 100 skateboarders to come to play every day. The street-style area of the skate park is composed of elements such as grinding rails, handrail boxes, large ramps straight slopes, and pyramid ramps, creating a versatile urban block. The 1.5-meter-deep bowl area contains elements such as U-shaped pools, hip-shaped ramps, and quarter-pipes, an integration of functions adding a considerable level of difficulty and fun to the park.       In the countryside, Wenjiang also boasts distinctive cultural and sports venues, such as the Cultivator Club of Huangshi Community in Wanchun Town. Through collaborative efforts and shared resources, Wenjiang is forging a new path of ‘rural revitalization with sports at the forefront’. The city’s rapid and high-quality development, along with the improvement in citizens’ quality of life, has led to the establishment of convenient, eco-friendly, and specialized sports facilities city-wide.

      From July 28 to August 8, Chengdu 2021 FISU Games will be held in Chengdu, Sichuan. The Hongyi Gymnasium at Sichuan Vocational and Technical College of Communications in Wenjiang District is one of the five volleyball venues for this sports gala. Wenjiang District firmly grasps the opportunity presented by Chengdu 2021 FISU Games to fully implement the principle of “Branding the City and Benefiting the People”, continuing to improve the city’s popularity and reputation.

      During the recent 10th Plenary Session of the 15th CPC Wenjiang District Committee, it was proposed to adhere to the leadership of technological innovation and accelerate the construction of a modern industrial system supported by the real economy. The emphasis was placed on promoting tourism through culture, fostering cultural prosperity through commerce, branding the city through sports events, and developing the cultural, sports and tourism industries with a focus on performing arts, sports and leisure, and cultural tourism. Currently, Wenjiang District is prioritizing the construction of the 8-kilometer-long core demonstration section of Jinma River project, aiming to create a unique ecological consumption space characterized by ‘one belt, one core, and multiple points’ and featuring water-friendly environments, water-based activities, and openness. Through such efforts, it aims to fully promote the rapid implementation and phased presentation of projects such as Lujiatan water sports and tourism self-drive destination. In the future, the sports and leisure industry will continue to empower the city’s development and create significant value.       Wenjiang, with its vibrant river, is nurturing a thriving sports atmosphere that permeates the entire city, which intertwines with its ecological environment and aligns with the aspirations of its residents.
