To further showcase the charm of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the GDToday-curated "Discovering China Together: Photography Exhibition by Renowned American Photographers in Guangdong" opened at the InterCultural Day 2025 in Guangzhou on February 15.

The exhibition features 42 photographs taken by four Pulitzer Prize winners and World Press Photo honorees—Nick Ut, Ringo Chiu, Irfan Khan, and Michael Nelson. Last November, they were invited by GDToday to capture the province's landscapes, food, and people with their cameras.

Before coming to Guangzhou, the exhibition was displayed in Orange County, California, US, attracting around 500,000 visitors. The Guangzhou opening drew a diverse crowd, including foreign consuls, expats, and photography enthusiasts.

Kaan Baskurt, Consul General of Türkiye in Guangzhou, praised the exhibition for capturing both the people and cities. While it features landmarks like the Canton Tower, he was especially moved by portraits of copper artisans, Cantonese opera performers, and Yingge dancers, from which he felt the photographers' humanistic care.

Piotr Nowotniak, Consul General of Poland, reflected on Guangzhou's rapid transformation when viewing a photo of the neon-lit Pearl River night cruise. "The future is unfolding in China. This is perhaps a glimpse of what humanity's future will look like," he said.

Lena, a Singaporean who has lived in Guangzhou for 23 years, shared a similar sentiment. A photo of the Canton Tower illuminated in dazzling lights reminded her of witnessing its construction. "I have a deep connection with the Canton Tower. To see it immortalized in such a beautiful form is truly amazing," she said.

The photographers, all from the US except for Chinese-American Ringo Chiu, had little prior knowledge of local culture before visiting Guangdong. Yet local resident Tasha felt their work perfectly captures the blending of old and new China. She shared her feedback with GDToday, pointing to a photo of young people dancing Yingge in front of an ancient tower in Shantou as an example.

As part of InterCultural Day 2025, an annual event in Guangzhou that celebrates the city's cultural diversity through a lively display of performances, art and traditions from different countries, this exhibition is supported by Canton Place and InterCulture.

The exhibition is open for free from February 15 to 24 at Canton Place, Guangzhou.
